The Power of Community

Finding Unity in Church, the Gym, and Extreme Ownership Academy

By: Greg Modd

Humans are inherently social creatures. We seek connections, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging throughout our lives. This innate desire to be a part of something bigger than ourselves draws us to communities that resonate with our values, passions, and aspirations. Three standout communities have significantly impacted my journey: my church, my gym, and the Extreme Ownership Academy. Each of these communities, while distinct in nature, offers unique bonds and benefits that profoundly enrich my life.

Finding Faith and Fellowship at 2|42 Community Church

The community I've found in my church isn't just about spiritual connection; it's about genuine human connection. At church, we come together as believers and as a family. It's where we share our joys, sorrows, challenges, and triumphs. The bond formed through shared faith is strong, and the support system is unmatched. When life throws a curveball, I know an entire community is rooting for me, praying for me, and ready to help in any way they can. Seth Remis and I met during Rooted, and then we went into a discipleship training program using SmallCircle. I have another brother-in-Christ from this community.

Moreover, the values imparted in this space shape my everyday actions and decisions. The teachings guide me towards compassion, kindness, and understanding, ensuring I contribute positively. I am doing my best to reflect Jesus in all interactions.

Strength in Numbers: The Gym Community

The camaraderie at the gym goes beyond physical fitness. Yes, we're all there to better our physical fitness, but in the process, we forge relationships deeply rooted in mutual respect and motivation. We celebrate each other's progress, no matter how small, and encourage each other to push through barriers. 1 Thes 5:11

Michigan Institute of Athletics is a community built on the foundation of discipline, dedication, and determination. Observing others' hard work fuels my own commitment, and the group classes and sessions foster a spirit of teamwork. We sweat together, we struggle together, and most importantly, we succeed together. I love my BJJ team, and PPC has sponsored a few amateur fighters we have confidence will represent the brand well.

Leadership and Growth at Extreme Ownership Academy

The Extreme Ownership Academy isn't just an institution; it's a melting pot of like-minded individuals committed to personal growth and leadership. Here, community members challenge each other to step out of their comfort zones and to strive for excellence constantly. We utilize the Laws of Combat and Mindsets for Victory. It's a space where we learn from exceptional instructors and each other's experiences and perspectives.

The academy promotes the principle of taking complete responsibility for one's actions, a lesson applicable in every aspect of life. The community here holds me accountable, ensuring I remain true to my goals and continually push my boundaries. The bonds formed here are based on mutual respect, admiration, and the shared journey towards self-improvement.

The beauty of a community lies in its diversity. Each community I'm a part of – my church, the gym, or the Extreme Ownership Academy – offers unique experiences and insights contributing to my personal and professional growth. They provide a sense of belonging, a network of support, and a space to learn and evolve. Humans thrive in communal settings, drawing strength from shared experiences and collective wisdom. I'm grateful for each of these communities and the myriad ways they enrich my life, teaching me the invaluable lesson that while individual effort is essential, true growth and success are collective endeavors.
